My introduction to Alex happened a long time ago on the streets of Portland where we are both from. At one time many years ago while working on a shoot we had made a huge white set that we used 5 gallons of white paint to cover it. When we returned in the morning from leaving it to dry the night before, our perfect white set was no more. Alex had seen it as his canvas where in the morning we were left with the floor covered in probably 30 empty cans of paint.
Since then (about 5 years now), he has reduced the scale in which he works while still keeping a much larger scale than other painters. His craft goes beyond the surface on each piece, from building his own panels in which to paint on all the way up to polishing them with beeswax.
His latest series is titled outer space 1986
