#72 Emory Douglas
16 September 2008
Emory Douglas was literally the very look and feel of the Black Panthers. As Minister of Culture, Douglas designed, illustrated, art directed, laid out and set every visual and graphic of the Black Panther Party from inception til end. All the ephemera, posters, pins, signage, and newspapers were all Emory Douglas. At its core, a very small localized group, The Panthers relied heavily on the propaganda machine that was Douglas to grow and expand its message and recruit its soldiers. One of my single greatest influences in the world of design. Graphic design as a weapon of change
and revolution.
