Spiele: Otl Aicher’s Olympic Graphic Design

9 October 2008

Yesterday, the design group at Dwell made our way down to San Jose to check out an exhibition of Otl Aicher’s work for the 1972 Munich Olympics. We were delighted to meet Joe Miller, the show’s curator and design enthusiast who has single handily collected much of the entire program. Everything from an official ‘72 Olympic torch, numerous event posters, tickets, and even a stuffed mascot known as Waldi (apparently the first Olympic mascot which proved to be hugely successful, so much so, that every Olympic games to follow has incorporated a mascot). The collection is vast and hugely impressive and Joe’s wealth of knowledge was really inspiring and beneficial to all. Thanks for the tour Joe!

The show is up through October 17th
