KOREAN BOXES.
8 December 2008
For South Koreans, boxing is mainly a sport of the past, a metaphor for what the country was in the 1970s and ’80s before its economy jumped to 13th largest in the world. Now, a girl whose family fled North Korea is breathing just a hint of new life into the sport by winning a world championship. Posters for her fights bill Choi Hyun-mi as the “Defector Girl Boxer.” She is just the fifth South Korean woman to hold a boxing championship title. And she’s only 17. Props to Pac-Man on his win over DLH, but this chick rocks. Check out the slideshow from NYTimes.
