Fanatic VIII

17 July 2009

New York (Chinatown Newswire) — In what has become a cherished summertime tradition, more than a dozen members of the Chinatown Soccer Club will once again be competing in this year’s Fanatic tournament to take place on Manhattan’s West Side on Saturday, July 25.

The annual competition pits teams from a variety of New York creative collectives against one another and will be held at Chelsea Waterside Park on 23rd Street and the West Side Highway.

In addition to the action on the pitch, a barbecue, beers and beats will be supplied by hosts Adidas between noon and 9 p.m.

Members of the Chinatown Soccer Club are competing on several teams starting with the CSC itself and fellow former finalists The Krauts.

Spectators might also spot the odd CSC player or two on the Psyop team as well as with the Diner Old Boys and Bowery United squads.

In a related development, Peter “The Beard” Sutherland has added to his recent sponsorship deals by agreeing to have his unmistakable likeness used on the official posters for the event (see below).

“Peter’s [Sutherland] composure in the air is admired by his teammates so it only makes sense that they [Adidas] would use what will probably become an iconic image to promote the tournament,” a Chinatown Soccer Club spokesperson said.
