Bentley Mulsanne at Pebble Beach
Reported by Yorgo Tloupas, 18 August 2009, 04:55 AMThe reason for my trip to Pebble Beach was the launch of a brand new Bentley, the new Mulsanne. The first glimpse we had of it was on Saturday evening, at a private event for customers (not me) and press (hello) on the grounds of Clint Eastwood’s golf club, Tehama. A spectacular setting to say the least, but also an intimate way to showcase a car (we could not take pictures on that night though…). Much dancing was had, dangerously close to a one-off pre-production car…
Then on Sunday, at noon, at the Legendary Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Bentley did the official reveal (no modern car had ever been launched at the Concours), with a marching bagpipe band of course:

And some Royal guards of sorts (pardon my lack of precision in monarchy matters):

I think the car is really spot-on, classic and conservative enough in some ways (the interior, the grille), but quite daring and modern on some other aspects (the low roofline, the sloped rear, and these headlights).

My favorite detail is the way the inside of the door handles relfect, jewel-like, on the mirrored surface carved in the door:

Look out for better pictures of it in the next issue of Intersection
