KDDI Ply phone
23 October 2009
Each time I go to Japan I get the same frustration. Why do they get sleek, simple, avant-garde mobile phones while we (in Europe and the US) get ugly, cluttered, over-designed ones?
This year was no exception, as I discovered the KDDI Ply. Simply amazing, shame it only works in Japan!

Karen Kimmel workshop
13 June 2009
Artist and long time Arkitip supporter Karen Kimmel has been invited by Partners & Spade to help launch their Avant Garde Preschool with her Art of Exchange Stencil Workshop.

Karen Kimmel’s stencil workshop encourages children to make their own mark by drawing with her nature-inspired stencils. The workshop focuses on the discovery and integration of abstract thinking and promotes the exploration of color, shape and form.

#73 Chuck Stewart
9 September 2008
Legendary, but rather unknown Jazz photographer, Chuck Stewart is the man and the lense behind most of Impulse’s greatest album covers and artist portraits. John and Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Jackie McClean, Archie Shepp and countless others over the sixties were captured in all their earthtones and spirituality that matched the music perfectly. Free and avant-garde jazz never looked so good. My favorite photographer of all time.

the greatest hour
2 September 2007
For those who do not speak danish- please listen to the truth that Tony Arcabascio is talking about on his first post on intelligence. About what seems relavant to read about on a fucking blog.
Her er en lille film som jeg personlig er meget glad for da jeg har været fan af Eddy Merckx siden jeg var 5 år gammel, og af Belgiske cykelryttere generalt. Her tager han timerekorden i Mexico fra vores egen Ole Ritter.

KARL
Rick Griffin
9 August 2007
A must see show if you are in the Los Angeles area.
“Rick Griffin set the iconographic terrain for the 1960s and 1970s counterculture, in his art Griffin expressed idealism and hope along with a darker side that perfectly embodied the contradictions of the era with its mixture of hedonism, politics, and avant-garde expression.
The exhibition, which includes some 140 paintings, drawings, posters, album covers, and artifacts, surveys thirty years of Griffin’s work from the 1960s until his death in 1991.”

Herbert Spencer
2 August 2007
A friend was recently told about a few inspirational books in a certain designers life. I was lucky enough to have him gift one of those books to me today.

“Since its first publication in 1969, Pioneers of Modern Typography has been the standard guide to the avant-garde origins of modern graphic design and typography. In this essential reference, Herbert Spencer shows how new concepts in graphic design in the early decades of the twentieth century had their roots in the artistic movements of the time in painting, poetry, and architecture.”
