Ace X CMJ
27 October 2008
We just got back from College Music Journal ‘08 Music Marathon & Film Festival in NYC. The whole week was a blast, but the highlight for us was the Knitting Factory and Spectre’s PDX@CMJ event, which showcased nearly 30 Portland bands.
We were excited to participate in PDX@CMJ in the form of an Ace Photo Booth. People piled in for some great party shots, like these ones.
The event tied everything together for us – Portland, great bands and New York City. Look for Ace Hotel New York to open Feb 1st and Ace Hotel Palm Springs to open in mid-January.

Ace Hotel X Tokyo
2 October 2008
This past Friday Sept 26th in Tokyo Japan, Ace Hotel in collaboration with Cute Alert and Travel Portland, hosted “One Night in Portland”.

The event was held at the infamous Le Baron nightclub in Aoyama and featured a performance by the Portland band Starfucker as well as DJ Girlfriends.
The band and DJ played to a packed house filled with Tokyo influencers and cool kids. Center stage featured a video projection of Portland Style presented by Cute Alert and attendees received a gift that included a Portland Survival Guide (In Japanese) created by the Ace Hotel and compilation CD of local music put together by Dave Allen and Travel Portland.
The party was a unique collaboration for a hotel and visitors association.

New York Paris, Paris New York
16 September 2008
There is a new airline called l’avion that started a little over a year ago, all business class, point to point between NYC and Paris. Pricing is reasonable for business class, the overall design and branding is very crisp. Staff uniforms are tres chic, good food, I highly recommend this airline for Travel from NYC to Paris.

Ace Hotel New York
26 August 2008
Check out some drawings of the new Ace Hotel New York. These were drawn by our design firm Roman and Williams.

Here is a little info on the new hotel, located at 29th and Broadway in Manhattan. The Ace Hotel New York features a wide variety of room types. From bunk bed rooms starting at $199 all the way up to Loft Suites at $899
Ace is the low card and the high card. Â Our basic rooms are affordable but replete with cool amenities. Our big suites offer all the luxury you would expect from a high-end hotel. Our sensibility is democratic and inclusive. We appeal to a broad spectrum of travelers, directly, without reducing everything to the lowest common denominator. Â The proof is in the common areas, where all these disparate types come together in a social place that is both dynamic and intimate, vibrant and warm.
Ace Hotel New York is improvisational, a mix of styles, historical periods and objects that come together in layers. The hotel’s design takes its cues from the vibrancy of street life, the honesty of materials and the potential of invention. It is about soul, latent in the old architecture and re-introduced through the new design.

Communist Party organizers have issued the official guideline on Olympics cheering to ensure crowds clap properly during the summer games. My personal favorite, the “double thumbs up”, is highly encouraged.
