Arkitip Issue No. 0054, Serena Mitnik-Miller

18 March 2010

We’re very proud to announce that our next issue edition, No. 0054, will feature the artwork of Serena Mitnik-Miller.

Serena Mitnik-Miller executes her painting with watercolor on paper, employing transparent, all over repetitive shapes in vivid colors that reference nature specific to the sea. Mitnik-Miller associates these colors and geometries with organic vocabulary and palette, most importantly its complex dynamic. The paintings become increasingly disorienting with layered internal space and vortex like sensibility shifting the image beyond the paper.

In her photographic work Mitnik-Miller both seduces and alienates the viewer employing graphic and abstract approach to her images. Experiential qualities of light abound within the images, embracing the films grain to create a watercolor-like effect when printed on natural matte paper.

Serena currently lives and works near the ocean in San Francisco, where she helps to run the Mollusk Surf Shop Gallery and her own new venture, General Store.

Arkitip will also be supporting her upcoming solo exhibition at Four Barrel Art titled: Blocked, a new series of paintings.

Parra at Project Space

11 March 2010

As a means of bringing our collective creative pursuits into an experiential environment, Arkitip and Incase have partnered to open Project Space, a unique setting for exhibitions, performances and installations.

Along with original artwork, Project Space will support a limited range of curated products that will rotate based on availability. This will include all special project endeavors from each brand. Project Space stays true to Arkitip’s founding principles: supporting the arts, promoting freedom of expression and making art affordable and accessible.

We are proud to announce our first exhibition at Project Space with Parra.

32-year-old Dutch illustrator and designer Parra has decorated the Amsterdam underground with his playful, bizarre graphics that span a broad base of themes, from introspective to audacious and bawdy. The mostly self-taught artist seems to channel a vintage form with curves, yet with a decidedly modern, post-pop approach. His vibrant and often humorous images feature a distinctive, hand-drawn feel, and can be seen printed on various exhibitions around the globe—club flyers, record sleeves and billboards—as well as silk screened on tees and sweaters.

Parra’s characteristic style has also extended into his music career with electro-rock group Le Le. Their most popular track “Breakfast” features Parra’s typography and imagery set in motion to the song’s pulsating beats and comical (and slightly naughty) lyrics.

Evan Hecox for Curated by Arkitip.

Hecox series features cinematic depictions of London, New York and Tokyo.

Artist and designer Evan Hecox displays his fascination with the urban landscape on Incase products for the sixth installment of Curated by Arkitip. Available today, the Evan Hecox series has been issued in three limited editions: London, New York and Tokyo. As the project’s first artist to present a series of products, Hecox brings to life nontraditional depictions of the famed cities and their associated national emblems on our signature MacBook Sleeve and iPhone Slider Case.

Drawing inspiration from the complexity of the modern metropolis, Hecox’s stylistic approach is based on the process of amplification as it affects form and color: breaking down the image, removing certain elements and emphasizing others. In his original artistry for Curated by Arkitip, Hecox filters the mundane into captivating illustrations of New York, London and Tokyo seemingly filled with narratives beyond the images themselves, and applies them to MacBook Sleeves. The Hecox Slider Cases complement the three Sleeves, bearing instantly recognizable national symbols of the three cities. Hecox re-imagined the symbols through his stylistic approach, resulting in artistic interpretations that are both familiar and new.

Hecox has found success both as a commercial and fine artist recognized for his unique stylistic approach that blends photography, hand drawn illustration and graphic design. With an extensive portfolio that includes skateboard graphics, illustrations, books, television ads and fine art, Hecox has been exhibited in galleries across the globe, including Los Angeles, Sydney, London and Tokyo.

The video element to accompany the release of the product line is now online. Similar to what we do with the Chronicles, the video will give the viewer a closer look at the process and inspirations of the artist.

The Hecox products for Curated by Arkitip are available now are available today at Arkitip, Incase, better boutiques and Apple Store locations worldwide.

We are very proud of the results and hope you enjoy our latest collaboration.

Evan Hecox for your iPhone.

The Evan Hecox line of products for Curated by Arkitip for Incase includes a series of Slider Cases for iPhone 3GS/3G to complement the three editions of Evan Hecox Sleeves previewed last week. While the original artistry on the Evan Hecox Sleeves present more abstracted representations of urban environments, each of the Hecox Slider Cases bear instantly recognizable emblems of modern metropolises that span the global landscape.

For the Slider Cases, Hecox re-imagined symbols of nationalism through his stylistic approach: breaking down the image, removing certain elements and emphasizing others, resulting in artistic interpretations that are both familiar and new.

For the launch there will be a video element to accompany the release of the product line. Similar to what we do with the Chronicles, the video will give the viewer a closer look at the personalities involved in creating this product program.

The 15” Evan Hecox Sleeves for Curated by Arkitip will be available in three editions on 9 February 2010.
