Styrofoam Turntable
15 March 2010

This is a prototype and the Swedish company Teenage Engineering are looking for manufacturers. I think a DIY turntable is a nice idea…not sure about how it sounds but anyone trying to revive analog is OK with me. Check out the rest of their product line here…I may need to buy all of them when they become available to the public. Thanks to Post Family.
La Casa Da Musica
15 March 2010
On Saturday I visited this monolithic music center of Porto designed by Rem Koolhaas. There are entire areas for anyone of any age to learn and to work on musical compositions, musical performances almost daily, and an incredibly inspiring feeling while inside the building. Something special that every city should have. When I have children I will want to bring them here often as possible. Nice video of the structure here. Stefan Sagmeister on the epic branding.

LCD and JCV for YSL
12 March 2010
Stefano Pilati invited James Murphy and the rest of LCD Soundsystem to create the soundtrack to Mondays Yves St. Laurent runway show at the Grand Palais in Paris. Check the video.
For their show in the 1971 Yves asked Jean Claude Vannier to provide the music…if you have not seen this it is one of my favorite moments in fashion.
Arrival in Porto
10 March 2010

Actually it’s Joao Da Madeira (about an hour north of Porto). Population 20,000 and easily half the roads are cobblestone. You can tell Madeira is proud of it’s shoemaking heritage as the town square has this statue of a shoe maker in it’s center.
Yo! Tel
10 March 2010

After the thirteen hour nonstop flight from Los Angeles to London I stopped at the Yotel, a Japanese capsule style hotel designed after the British Airways first class sleeper cabins. Another sucessful idea from Simon Woodroffe. Available for now only at Heathrow, Gatwick, and Schiphol…but I’m sure there will be plenty more popping up soon. Exactly what I needed.
Codek’s Electric Fling
3 March 2010
http://www.vimeo.com/7308712Great to see Sasha and Alex keeping their vision alive with this analog time capsule.
I miss the Tim Toum days…it was on Orchard Street in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. It has since closed but was such a great intro to Italo, Afro, and the hard left of all genres of music. I still have a few of their mix tapes and compilations. Take me back Codek.
Great cover art by Alex. Wishing they were screen sized…

RemixRewindReplay
2 March 2010

One of my all time favorites…The Sharp VZ-2000E boombox…featuring two tonearms so you never had to flip the record and powered by 10 D batteries.
On view through March 23rd, an exhibition of analog to digital sound showing the relationship between design and music culture.
The Wurst Gift
2 March 2010

Roy, Nice hanging with you the last couple of days in LA…and thanks for the shirt! Great fit, the oxford cloth is soft and comfortable, and the quality is top notch…nothing less than expected. It could be Wurst!
