Tokyo Fixed shop opening
26 November 2009
Last night a new bike shop opened in London, Tokyo Fixed. Great location in the middle of Soho, nice-looking new building, functional interior design, with an impressive selection of frames, clothes, parts and vintage posters. It all adds up to create one more amazing store in town.

Cycling posters ain’t what they used to be:

Well done Max!

Taking Bike Polo Seriously
24 November 2009
Just got a sweet package from Paul of NYC Bike Polo fame… Thanks!

Dorade Magazine
19 November 2009
A few days ago I passed by the launch party of a new magazine, Dorade. One of its founders is Philippe Jarrigeon, who used to work for Intersection a year or so ago. Good – albeit a bit obscure – content, and interesting photography and layouts.

Intersection x Peugeot RCZ

The ever-active Intersection France team have just achieved quite a feat. Then again Patrice Meignan’s ambitions are rarely small… here is a teaser:
Cinelli polo bike!
16 November 2009
This one is for the purists and the bike snobs. My friend Julien Tual is the first member of his bike polo team, the Saucy Lobstars, to have received and put together his Cinelli Vigorelli polo bike. This is just the normal $1000+ Vigorelli track frame, set up in polo mode, i.e. freewheel, rear brake, risers, etc…
Julien contacted Cinelli and asked them for sponsorship, and it worked surprisingly well – his team is now fully equipped with these aluminum frames and carbon (!) forks. I don’t know if the bike helped, but yesterday on the court his level had gone up – dramatically so.

Nike Tiempo CTRS x Yorgo – Pt.2
6 November 2009
A while back I showed here the early prototype of my custom colorway for the Nike Tiempo CTRS shoe. This is part of a project with the Lance Armstrong LIVESTRONG Foundation, where 8 riders – including Lance himself – from 8 cities choose a special colorway for the same model of shoe.
Finally the shoes have arrived, and are going to be on sale from this weekend at Colette in Paris, and DQM in New York.
The idea is an all-black shoe, with some of the black fabric actually made of reflective 3M material, so that car headlights (for the riders) or camera flashes (for the poseurs) make the shoe look completely different… and visible at night.

Twin magazine
5 November 2009
Tonight I briefly passed by the launch party for a new magazine, Twin. Created by Rebecca Smith of Vogue and Lula fame, this new Bi-Annual comes in a hard cover, and has a good roster of contributors, as I would have expected from Becky. Snapped a few bad shots in the dark:

KDDI Ply phone
23 October 2009
Each time I go to Japan I get the same frustration. Why do they get sleek, simple, avant-garde mobile phones while we (in Europe and the US) get ugly, cluttered, over-designed ones?
This year was no exception, as I discovered the KDDI Ply. Simply amazing, shame it only works in Japan!

Friends and their wheels / pt.18: Mathias Ohrel
23 October 2009
Quintessential french dandy, intellectual supremo, rock star, art lover and art critic, magazine and book editor, fashion headhunter, Mathias Ohrel recently got himself a BMW RT 80. Quite a cumbersome bike to squeeze around Paris in my opinion, but I have to admit the 1980’s colors and design are a good touch:

Friends and their wheels / pt.17: Stephane Muller
22 October 2009
The person who introduced me to the Kinfolk crew is none other than Stephane Muller, international man of mystery, always zooming between Paris, Tokyo and Greece. He’s got an eye for details, be it in fashion, motorbikes or bicycles. Here he is with his Vivalo/Kinfolk bike with 650c wheels… Yassou file mou!
